Ottawa Scholarships 2022:

Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship

Value: Varies depending on the program of studies.

The University of Ottawa will grant a Differential Tuition Fee Exemption Scholarship to international Francophone and Francophile students enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree as of September 2021, as part of its commitment to the Francophonie. Because of this considerable contribution, international students’ tuition expenses will be roughly identical to those of Canadian students.

This scholarship can be coupled with the President’s or Chancellor’s Scholarships, but not with the International Education Bursary.

President’s Scholarship for International Students

Value: $30,000 ($7,500 per year).

One full-time international undergraduate student receives the President’s Scholarship. It is one of the most distinguished scholarships at the University of Ottawa, with a value of $30,000. Applicants must have a valid student visa, a minimum entrance average of 92 percent (or equivalent), and leadership skills as well as a commitment to academics and extracurricular activities.

This award is renewable for three years if the student maintains full-time enrollment, international student status, and a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 8.50. Second, third, and fourth place applicants receive a one-time payment of $1,500 from the university. Online applications are required.

If a student’s CGPA is between 8.00 and 8.49 at the end of the academic year, they can extend their scholarship for 50% of the annual value. If their CGPA rises to 8.50 or better, they can additionally renew their scholarship for the entire amount the following year.

This scholarship cannot be used in conjunction with the Chancellor’s Scholarship for International Students, the Dean’s Merit Scholarship for the Faculty of Arts, or the Merit Scholarship.

The deadline is April 30th.

Chancellor’s Scholarship for International Students

Value: $26,000 ($6,500 per year).

One full-time international undergraduate student receives the Chancellor’s Scholarship. It is one of the most distinguished scholarships at the University of Ottawa, valued at $26,000. Applicants must have a valid student visa, a minimum entrance average of 92 percent (or equivalent), and leadership skills as well as a commitment to academics and extracurricular activities. This award is renewable for three years if the student maintains full-time enrollment, international student status, and a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 8.50. Entrance Scholarship for African Students Studying in English

Value: Varies depending on the program.

The University of Ottawa is proud of its international student body’s diversity. This renewable scholarship is available to international students who are citizens of African countries, who are admitted to one of the specified undergraduate programs in the faculties of Engineering, Science, or Social Sciences in the Fall 2022 term or later, who are studying in English, and who are enrolled in one of the specified undergraduate programs in the faculties of Engineering, Science, or Social Sciences. Depending on the program, this considerable financial contribution cuts their tuition rates by $12,000 to $20,000.

This grant will be immediately awarded to all qualifying students upon enrollment. It will be applied to their tuition costs directly.
The Excellence Scholarship for African Students Studying in English cannot be coupled with this scholarship.

Excellence Scholarship for African Students Studying in English

Value: Varies depending on the program.

The University of Ottawa is proud of its international student body’s diversity. This renewable scholarship is for international students who are citizens of African countries, who are admitted to one of the specified undergraduate programs in the faculties of Engineering, Science, or Social Sciences in the Fall 2022 term or later with an admission average of 90% or higher, who are studying in English, and who are enrolled in one of the specified undergraduate programs in the faculties of Engineering, Science, or Social Sciences. Depending on the program, this considerable financial commitment cuts their tuition expenses by $17,500 to $25,000, depending on the program.

Students who qualify for this award will receive it automatically when they enroll. It will be applied to their tuition costs directly.

This award cannot be combined with the African Students Studying in English Entrance Scholarship.
The deadline is April 30th.

Faculty of Arts Dean’s Merit Scholarship

Value: $4,000 ($1,000 per year).

The Faculty of Arts offers ten renewable scholarships worth a total of $4,000 each. Eligible applicants must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate degree at the Faculty of Arts for the first time and have a minimum admission average of 90%. This scholarship can be renewed for the next three years if the student has a CGPA of 9.00 or above at the end of a term (with at least 24 units) and is enrolled full time at the Faculty of Arts. This scholarship does not require an application. The scholarship is given out during the summer before your studies begin.

This scholarship is simply considered for all qualifying students, including international students.
This scholarship cannot be coupled with the President’s International Student Scholarship or the Chancellor’s International Student Scholarship.

Faculty of Engineering Dean’s Merit Scholarship

Value: Admission average of:
95-100% = $5,000
90-94.9% = $4,000

Students having an entrance average of 95 to 100 percent ($5,000) or 90 to 94.9 percent ($4,000) receive 35 of these scholarships from the Faculty of Engineering. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a Faculty of Engineering undergraduate degree for the first time.

This scholarship does not require an application; all qualified students, including overseas students, are automatically considered.

Faculty of Engineering Memorial Scholarship

Value: $2,000.

This scholarship is given by the Faculty of Engineering to seven female students, one from each of the engineering degrees (excluding computer science). This $2,000 reward is granted to applicants who have an admission average of at least 80% and meet all of the eligibility requirements.

Students must submit a statement stating why they are applying to an engineering program as well as an up-to-date resume showing their most recent academic and extracurricular accomplishments in order to apply. Online applications are required.

This grant is open to all female students admitted to the Faculty of Engineering, including overseas students.

The deadline is March 31st.

Faculty of Social Sciences Dean’s Excellence Award for International Students

Value: $1,500.

One or more qualifying international students enrolled full-time, for the first time, in an undergraduate degree at the Faculty of Social Sciences with a minimum admission average of 92 percent will receive a $1,500 stipend from the Faculty of Social Sciences. Online applications are required.

The deadline is March 31st.

Student Mobility Scholarship

Value: One term = $1,000
Two terms = $2,000

The University of Ottawa’s International Exchange Program provides numerous chances to study and perform internships overseas. To learn more about the possibilities available, go to the International Office’s website. Every year, the University grants mobility scholarships to students to assist them in paying for their studies or internships abroad. There is no need to fill out an application. The Student Mobility Scholarship is automatically awarded to all students selected for the Exchange Program.

How To Apply

Find out what options are available to you:

  • After you’ve applied to the University of Ottawa and received your uoAccess ID and password, you can apply for scholarships and bursaries.
  • The Online Scholarships and Bursaries search engine, also available in uoZone under the Applications menu, can help you find all of your options.

Apply:

  • All applications for scholarships and bursaries must be filed online through Online Scholarships and Bursaries. Typically, application forms are available two months prior to the deadline.
  • Before you apply, make sure you read all of the requirements thoroughly.
  • Submit your application via Online Scholarships and Bursaries after uploading all relevant documentation.

Keep an eye on your application:

  • From the Online Scholarships and Bursaries tool’s main page, you can keep track of all of your scholarship and bursary applications.

Receive your funds:

  • Your bursary or scholarship will be credited to your student account.
  • If you’re a CO-OP student, your funds will be sent to you once you’ve started a study term.
  • In mid-July, admission scholarships and renewals are often credited to your student account. You will be paid in two equal installments, one in September and the other in January, for your tuition expenses.
  • After winning a scholarship or bursary, you may have a credit balance in your student account if you’ve previously paid your tuition fees. To get these payments released, submit a refund request in uoZone under Finances and Jobs.
  • Bursaries and scholarships are taxed. If you won prizes, scholarships, or bursaries from the University of Ottawa during the fiscal year, you will receive a T4A slip. At the end of February, slips will be available at uoZone.
